Just thought i'd share something i found out whilst trying to find a programmer that worked.
I purchased a Velleman VM111 PICŪ PROGRAMMER AND EXPERIMENT BOARD and whilst this was an excelent board i discovered that when trying to program the 16F872 with the first tutorial program it like several programmers came back with an error message about the configuration bits. But after that somehow damaged the chip making it unprogramable again. I replaced the programmer but it still happened.
So it seems that though this was a nice board to work with when using a 16F627 i can only assume there is some uncompatiability between this board and these programmes. |

| If you use a different processor you need to alter the configuration bits, and make any required changes to the program. Not altering the config seting will give the error you noticed, and will also stop it working. |
